When I was young, it was a great feeling whenever we'd get to stop to see dad, and all of the people who worked with him at our funeral home in Brentwood, and maybe even getting the chance to stay and help him by cutting the grass or running the sweeper. His name is J. Fred Slater, Sr., a funeral director, as was his dad, Herb, his grandfather, John H., Sr., and his great-grandfather, William.
Now I am fortunate to look forward to when he comes and helps me here, on the hilltop, where he started serving, as did the rest of our family over 130 years ago.
The portrait in the foyer area is of my great-grandmother, Johanna Fredericka Vallowe Slater, who lived down the road on Alice Street, where she, and John H., Sr. raised their 5 children: Dorothy, Herb, John, Arthur and Charles.
In addition to funeral directing, background experiences include teaching (music k-12), music directing/conducting, Counselor/Parent for troubled youth, George Junior Republic, Grove City, purchasing/managing in the boating industry, sales, and current Choir and Music Director of Morning Worship at the Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania.
I am blessed to be married to my wife, DeeAnn, for 31 years and doubly blessed with two daughters, Tristan, 28 and Adriane, 23.
Sincerely,
